🥤 Lazy Sunday — Photographer’s Edition

by | Sep 19, 2025 | 0 comments

After a weekend of sprinting through timelines, hauling gear, crouching for the perfect angle, and dancing along with the crowd on the dance floor, Sundays aren’t just “lazy” — they’re essential. For photographers, rest isn’t a guilty pleasure. It’s recovery. It’s the reset button that keeps us going strong week after week.

Here’s what my Lazy Sunday reset really looks like:

1. Mountain Dew in Hand

Forget fancy lattes — sometimes the ultimate pick-me-up is cracking open an ice-cold Mountain Dew. The fizz, the sweetness, the nostalgia of it all — it’s the little burst of energy I need after pouring everything into a wedding day. It’s comfort in a can, best paired with a blanket and zero obligations.

2. Hot Showers That Melt Away the Week

By Sunday morning, every step reminds me how physical photography really is. Kneeling in grass, sprinting between ceremony and reception, carrying cameras that feel like small weights — it all adds up. A long, hot shower is like hitting “reset” on my muscles. Steam rising, water pounding on tired shoulders — it’s my first step toward feeling human again.

3. Heating Pads + Blankets

Every photographer has their secret weapons. Mine? Heating pads and blankets. Sore backs and stiff legs don’t stand a chance once I’m tucked under something soft with that gentle, steady warmth soothing my muscles. It’s not glamorous, but it’s everything.

4. Massage Therapy (DIY or Professional)

Weddings are full-body workouts disguised as art. Hours of bending, lifting, twisting, and balancing leave knots in places I didn’t know could knot. That’s where massage comes in. Whether it’s booking a professional session or using a handheld roller at home, it’s my “thank you” to my body for carrying me through another weekend of stories.

5. Editing in Full Cozy Mode

Editing on a Lazy Sunday isn’t about deadlines. It’s about slowing down. Sweats, messy bun, heating pad, maybe a candle flickering nearby. I’ll pick a handful of favorites from the weekend and edit them slowly, intentionally, almost like flipping through a diary. It’s a creative reset, not a sprint.

6. Cozy Movie Marathons + TV Obsessions

Lazy Sundays also call for true downtime: curling up with a blanket, Mountain Dew on the nightstand, and diving into a cozy movie marathon or my latest TV obsession. Whether it’s comfort classics I’ve seen a hundred times or a new binge-worthy series, this is the part of the day that reminds me to unplug completely. No emails, no edits, no deadlines — just story after story, while I rest and recharge my own.

7. The Total Reset

Lazy Sundays aren’t wasted days — they’re what keep me balanced. Hydrating, stretching, eating a real meal, sneaking in a nap, and heading to bed early are all part of the ritual. It’s not about doing “nothing” — it’s about giving myself exactly what I need to feel whole again.

✨ For photographers, Sundays aren’t “days off” — they’re behind-the-scenes fuel. They’re where we rest, recover, and remind ourselves that creativity needs space to breathe. So here’s to Mountain Dew, hot showers, heating pads, massages, cozy movie days, and the total reset we all need to keep creating with our whole heart.
