There’s something undeniably beautiful about a December wedding in Wisconsin. The light feels softer. The air feels quieter. The entire day carries this sense of closeness and intention that makes every moment feel even more meaningful. Ashley and Jono’s wedding at Geneva Tap House in Lake Geneva, WI was filled with exactly that kind of beauty — heartfelt moments, family connection, soft winter color, and so much joy woven into every part of the day.
From the beginning, their wedding day felt personal in the very best way.
The morning held so many sweet, emotional moments as Ashley got ready near the window, surrounded by soft natural light that made everything feel calm and almost dreamlike. Some of my favorite parts of a wedding day happen in those quieter in-between moments, when everything slows down for just a second. Ashley shared one of those moments with her daughter, and it was such a tender part of the day. It wasn’t loud or rushed. It was simply meaningful — the kind of memory that becomes part of the heart of the wedding story.
Ashley was absolutely stunning. Her gown had such beautiful lace detail, soft texture, and a timeless silhouette that felt both elegant and romantic. Paired with her veil and delicate hairpiece, her whole bridal look fit the day perfectly. It felt classic, but still warm and personal. Her bouquet brought in soft shades of lavender, periwinkle, and white, which added such a beautiful touch of winter color without taking away from the softness of the day. Those same tones carried throughout the wedding party details and created a cohesive look that photographed so beautifully.
Jono looked equally incredible in a light gray suit with a lavender tie, and together the two of them looked so natural side by side. Everything about their styling complemented the feel of the day — clean, classic, soft, and romantic. Nothing felt overdone. It all just felt like them, and that always makes a wedding even more memorable to photograph.
One of the things I loved most about Ashley and Jono’s day was how deeply family-centered it was. You could feel that this wedding was about more than beautiful details or a timeline of events. It was about the people surrounding them. It was about connection. It was about celebrating this next chapter with the people who mean the most. The moments with their children and family members added so much heart to the day, and that love showed up again and again in the images.
Their family portraits were such an important part of telling the full story of the day. There was so much joy and pride in those moments — everyone gathered together outside, dressed in soft purples, grays, and winter tones, celebrating Ashley and Jono. Those photos feel like such a reflection of what their wedding day truly was: not just a ceremony and reception, but a gathering of the people who make their lives whole.
And then there were the portraits of just the two of them — playful, romantic, and full of personality.
We stepped outside into downtown Lake Geneva for part of their portrait time, and it gave us such a fun contrast to the softness of the indoor getting-ready images. The city textures, brick walls, alleyways, and storefronts added character and variety to the gallery while still letting Ashley and Jono be the focus. Some of my favorite portraits from their day came from those moments outdoors together. From a dramatic dip kiss to a fun twirl in the street to the sweetest walking portraits hand in hand, they brought so much joy and ease into every frame.
What I loved most was that they didn’t try to overthink it. They laughed. They leaned into each other. They trusted the process. They let themselves enjoy the moment. That always creates the most meaningful images — the ones that feel less posed and more like a memory.
Ashley especially had such a beautiful softness in front of the camera, and Jono brought this playful energy that balanced everything so well. Together, they made space for both romance and fun, which is one of my favorite combinations to capture on a wedding day. Their portraits felt genuine, emotional, and completely true to who they are.
Geneva Tap House was such a unique and memorable venue for their celebration. Located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, it gave the day a warm, cozy setting while still allowing for plenty of visual variety. Indoors, the reception space felt inviting and intimate, especially with the glow of string lights and seasonal decor that added to the December atmosphere. The warmth inside paired so beautifully with the cooler, softer outdoor winter tones.
Their first dance was such a beautiful part of the evening. Surrounded by guests, warm lighting, and all of the energy of the room, Ashley and Jono shared one of those moments that felt suspended in time. The kind of moment where, even in a full room, it somehow still feels like only two people exist. Those are the moments couples remember forever — not because they were perfect, but because they were real.
That’s what stood out most about this entire wedding day: how real it felt.
Ashley and Jono’s wedding wasn’t about putting on a performance. It was about being present. It was about celebrating with intention. It was about family, commitment, laughter, and those quiet little moments that end up meaning everything later on. From the emotional getting-ready moments to the joyful family portraits to the romantic downtown portraits and warm reception celebration, every part of their day came together in a way that felt authentic and deeply meaningful.
December weddings have such a special magic to them, and Ashley and Jono’s day was such a beautiful example of that. Soft winter light, heartfelt connection, romantic lavender details, and a venue full of warmth made this celebration one to remember.
